Rare and glorious travertine Roman Eagle, entirely carved and worked by hand, with two vintage bronze inlaid medallions, dating back to the Fascist period, ca. 1930s/1940s.
It comes from Rome and from a private collection.
Original vintage lot.
The Roman Eagle was a symbol used by Fascism, mostly depicted with open wings. Also this symbol was a clear reference to the Roman civilisation and represented the greatness and victories of ancient Rome. The eagle was often depicted while holding fasces in its talons, as shown in that period on the flag of the Social Republic of Salò.
Lot of excellent quality and workmanship, with very precise details made with great care (please note the plumage, the talons, etc.) Currently rare to find on the market and this increases its value, especially considering that it’s absolutely intact. Please note the quality of the material. Travertine was widely used during the Fascist period. Even the Trevi Fountain was built with travertine, a valuable material of high workmanship and strength.
Special item for the presence of the bronze medallions, that also make the work more elegant. They were probably applied after the Fascist period.
