Fossil Fish - Έργα τέχνης - Neoproscinetes Pycnodont
Lower Cretaceous - Βραζιλία

This is “FOSSIL ART” from the specialists, FINE FOSSILS

The fossil fish has been set in 3D, into a piece of natural black limestone.

It takes many hours of work to prepare the fossil, and then many more, to prepare the limestone plate ready to receive the fossil

The fish is a rare and outstanding Neoproscinetes penalvai Pycnodont fish, discovered in the Santana Formation, Brazil. It dates from the Lower Cretaceous, and is 110 million years old.

Neoproscinetes is an uncommon fish fossil in the Santana Formation, although a few specimens have also been found in other parts of the world.

When this fish swam in the depths of the Cretaceous seas, Dinosaurs ruled the Earth.
It is a part of an extinct fish group known as Pycnodonts, which means "Dense Tooth".
The fish are typified by their deep, laterally compressed bodies, and their round pebble-like teeth, which were used to crush armored prey, such as small crustaceans, like crabs, shrimp, and snails.

This is an amazing and uncommon fossil fish in super condition, from an old collection.

A one off artwork, and a wonderful display in the home or office.
