French colonial medal (with ‘ALGERIE’ pin) and associated diploma (1895) awarded to an Infantry soldier.
The French colonial medal was established in 1893. This one, rarely found with its associated diploma, is from 1895. It is therefore one of the very first medals awarded.
On the front of the medal is the effigy of the Republic wearing a helmet, with the inscription ‘République Française’.
On the back of the medal, in the middle, is a world map placed on an anchor, surrounded by a trophy of weapons.
