Rare prayer book "Kammavaca", comprising 14 sheets plus the two wooden blankets. Lacquered wood, gilded with golden leaf. Alterations due to its age and use, see photos but in good condition despite everything. These books contained the rules to be followed in the monastic ritual and become rare and are now totally forbidden for export. In Pali - Circa early 20th century. Burma.
Very beautiful and rare object, two-sided. The hole that runs through the sheet was intended to receive the link that kept the leaves in order.
This one is a size larger than normal, 59.5 cm in length, pretty drawings of deities on some pages.
The two wooden covers are more recent than the leaves, as often, during the novitiates, these books were offered to monasteries and less fortunate families gave life to older objects. Thus the name of the donor is written, the place, Rangoon, the artist who redid the wooden covers, in Mandalay, and the year, 1958, which is clearly more recent than the sheets written in Pali, the language that disappeared long before that date.
